Submissions for The Almshouse Association Patron’s Award 2014

This week Saffer Cooper is very proud to have submitted two almshouse schemes for consideration for the Almshouse Association Patrons Award 2014. HRH The Prince of Wales is Patron to the Almshouse Association and in making these awards he is advised by the Association’s Awards Committee.

In 2013 Saffer Cooper submitted two schemes for the award. The first was the Powell and Welch scheme in Bitteswell and comprised the demolition of a pump house and the building of two flats.  The second scheme for the Abbots Bromley Hospital Almshouses was a remodelling and refurbishment. Both were highly commended by the committee.

In addition to the patrons award, Abbots Bromley Hospital Almshouses was Highly Commended in the Residential Category from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors at a ceremony hosted by George Clark, architect and television presenter best known for his series Restoration Man and Amazing Spaces.

We are hopeful for the two Almshouses now submitted for the 2014 Award!  The first one is in Lincolnshire and is a renovation of four terraced houses with a two storey new build extension to the rear. The second is in Norfolk and comprises of renovations and alterations with a single storey rear extension to eight properties.  We await news on the submissions during early Summer.
